Learn Guitar Now

Guitar may be the most versatile instrument on the planet, and it's also the most accessible. B.B. King once said that it's the easiest instrument to learn and the hardest to master, and this may be a part of the reason why it's so popular. I've had many people come in for their first lesson unsure of their musical ability only to leave with a smile on their face and the first few chords under their belt, feeling a lot more confident. As the very gentle learning curve begins to curl upwards in time with growing confidence, I've really seen people surprise themselves and begin to push themselves further than they thought possible.

As an instrument, the Guitar will always come up, or down, to your level. If all you want is to do is strum simple songs or your interest lies in advanced fingerstyle, jazz or classical, you're in the right place.

It's important to learn correctly from the beginning. You may have very simple goals to begin with, but inevitably this will change as your ability grows, and it's important that the correct technique is in place from the first lesson. You don't need to read music to start playing (although this is recommended further down the line), but the fundamentals of rhythm playing and reading are essential.

Most beginners, intermediate, and people returning to playing will follow a structured program in both Rhythm Guitar Playing and Finger Picking-FingerStyle as follows:

Rhythm Guitar:

Open Chords, Basic Rhythm Notation, Flatpicking, Barre Chords, Power Chords, Syncopated Strumming, Chord Construction, 12 Bar Blues, Maj and Min 7th Chords, Dom,/Maj/min 9th, m7b5 and other 'jazz' Chords, 16th note strumming, 'Nashville' Notation and lots of songs! Styles covered include Rock, Pop, Folk, Jazz, Blues and Country.

Fingerpicking to Fingerstyle:

Reading Tab, Alternating Thumb and Arpeggiated Patterns, accompaniment, Adding Melody Notes and progressing to full Fingerstyle playing. Styles covered include Blues, Folk, Ragtime and Oldtime.

Music Theory:

Relevant 'bare bones' Theory is included in the lessons. In depth Music Theory lessons that follow the ABRSM syllabus are available as group classes.
